No, you don’t need to be mindlessly scrolling on your screen
What do you do when you normally do when you feel bored. It has been really easy to escape boredom having Netflix and social media at the reach of our fingertips.
No, there’s nothing wrong with watching Netflix and using social media once in a while. But, you can use that time to do other things that are more important and will help you in some way.
Here is a list of 10 things you can do to spend your time in a fun way when you feel bored.
Organize your space
Decluttering and organizing is one of the best self-care practices that can improve your overall well-being. The space you live in shapes your mood, attitude, and how well you can focus.
You might probably have heard people saying having a messy room also will create a messy mind. And that’s so true. Having a clean and organized space will also help you to give a sense of peace of mind.
Journal your thoughts
Journaling is well known to reduce stress, over-thinking. It also helps to control your mood. When you write down your thoughts on paper or even a digital notebook, it forces your brain to dump thoughts out that are troubling you.
Journaling can not only help you to understand your thoughts more clearly but also will help to gain control over your emotion.
Do you find this term new? I recently came to know about this one when I was watching a TED Talks by David Blaine. He explained how practicing purging allowed him to do longer breath holds
Now, seriously you are not here to break the breath-hold record, but still doing purging is highly beneficial for you. I’ve tried it and doing it for just a minute or two helps to calm your mind and give you a feeling of relaxation.
You take a breath in and force it out as hard as you can, repeat this process 20–30 times and hold your breath for as long as you can after that. And, again repeat this process. Doing it even for 2 minutes will give your mind a nice and fresh feeling.
Listen to Podcasts
Listening to podcasts doesn’t require much mental power but can drastically increase your level of knowledge. They are a good way to spend your time you don’t feel like doing something.
Listening actively and Immersing yourself in the conversations can also help you give access to the wisdom of the best minds in the world.
Try learning a new language
This is something I personally do. I’m learning Spanish currently as of writing this post. Learning a new language doesn’t have to be hard. They can be fun and interesting.
There are different apps available to help you learn new languages in a fun way. I prefer to use Duolingo. It is a great app and using it just for 10 minutes a day has helped me learn a lot of Spanish
Read a book you enjoy
Reading doesn’t have to be frustrating. When you find the book you love, you’ll not stop until you finish it. As J.K Rowling put:
“If you don’t love reading, you haven’t found the right book.”
Although playing games or hanging out with friends seems to be too tempting instead of reading, time spent reading a good novel or a self-help book will help you in the long term.
Reading books is one of the key habits of successful people and doing it regularly can also put you on the same list.
Prepare your meal
Preparing your own meal is another great way to spend your time. Meal preparation is one of the key habits to adopt for living a healthy lifestyle.
Preparing a meal when you are bored helps you to save time later. It also makes you less likely to eat fast foods and beverages.
Why not Stretch
I don’t feel most people do it but stretching is a highly beneficial habit. It is good not only for the body but also for the mind. It relaxes your muscles and calms down your mind.
Stretching doesn’t only mean sitting and holding a certain posture, it can also be as simple as standing, walking, or even changing body positions. A short 5 minutes of stretching can help you increase blood flow in the whole body. This helps not only your system to feel better but also work effectively.
Visualize your goals
Visualization is one of the greatest hacks I have known so far. Many people also know it, but don’t implement on their life. The reason visualization works so well is because our brain can not differentiate between reality and imagination. So, whenever you imaging something, your brain believes, it is a reality.
Visualizing helps your brain to perform a certain way to help you reach your goals. When you repeat this process again and again, it creates further stronger neural connection. That is why most people recommend visualizing our goals every day.
When you visualize, then you materialize. — Denis Waitley
Visualizing your goals when you are bored or unproductive will help you to regain focus on what’s important in your life and what you should be doing. This ultimately helps you to be more productive and efficient on whatever you are working towards.
